Natural skin care
Natural skin care has become a marketing term that acts
as an umbrella for a large number of products. For example, some Internet
sites say that soap cannot be used as part of a natural skin care regimen,
but Tom's of Maine advertises its soap as all natural.
Some beauticians use the term natural skin care to describe a regimen
of hygiene rather than a description of products. For example, they
suggest having a dry brush to eliminate dead skin cells. The only reason
they classify this process under natural skin care is that they recommend
using a natural bristle brush.
For other companies natural skin care allows them to segment their
products to better compete against mainstream sellers. You may see alternative
medicine stores selling natural skin care products. While it is not
clear how the products are more "natural," the skin care treatments
get priced higher because they are marketed toward high income consumers,
this is especially true of cosmetics.
